Margaret, an American tourist is vacationing in Italy with her daughter Clara, who falls in love with a local man, Fabrizio. The chance encounter forces Margaret to confront painful memories in this moving tale of romantic and maternal love. Adam Guettel’s lush score has been a celebrated vehicle for operatic voices and won the Tony Award for best original score in 2005.
