Ferdinand III: Drama Musicum | Harmonia Stellarum
October 25 at 4:00 pm
A performance of Ferdinand III’s Drama musicum, an early Habsburg court opera composed in the 1640s by Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand III to a libretto by his brother, Archduke Leopold Wilhelm. Among the earliest surviving operatic works from the Habsburg court, it is also an unusual example of an emperor composing for the stage. A recently rediscovered contemporary manuscript has allowed the work to be newly reconstructed for this performance.
